Statement

My works of art are taken from images that denote life in its final stages of their physical subsistence, from the use of cancer cells to aging animals are the narratives I work with. Being exposed to and being brought up in a pathology lab I learned that death was a natural part in the process of life. It does not discriminate; it is part of the sequence for the living that will all pass through. As an adult I learned how death was feared and viewed as being a negative progression in life.  Experiencing clinical depression I looked at death as a liberating. So the question is if death is a natural part of all the living process, why is it feared? With so much stress today that we live with, I want to provide to the viewer some type of a release from it when they experience my work. To take the foundation of death as being a negative and to shine on it as being a positive is the ultimate experience to liberty for the sprit. I use oil paint since it is made up from natural materials that are part of the earth which are the rudiments for existing. Since oil paint has no restrictions it is the one medium that continues to develop with its practice. As I age my sprit matures and is allowed the freedom to explore, as with my painting they are allowed that same independence.
